URL masking" (when done correctly) is entirely hidden from search engines and users. All that matters is the resulting URL that everyone sees. The underlying filesystem path that the URL maps to is entirely private, known only to you and should never be referenced in the public domain.

Using a frame, often called "framed forwarding" for masking the real URL is generally bad for SEO and delivers a bad user experience. The URL inside the frame is not hidden from search engines. There are essentially two separate pages/URLs and both can be indexed.

Domain Masking or URL Masking is the act of hiding the actual domain name of a website from the URL field of a user's web browser in favor of another name.

Domain name forwarding and masking can be very useful tools. However, domain masking can negatively affect your search engine rankings.
Search engines like Google hate duplicate content. so it may badly effects the page ranking and your site may be panelized.

Domain name forwarding lets you automatically direct your domain name's visitors to a different website. Masking prevents visitors from seeing your domain name forwarding by keeping your domain name in the Web browser's address bar. ... To forward or mask your domain name, you must use our nameservers.

If you've ever heard the word duplicate content, then you know why this might be bad. What happens when Google visits domain1.com and then visits domain2.com?

With a redirect, Google sends a request for domain1.com and the server tells Google that content has moved to domain2.com. The result is Google only finds the content on domain2.

With domain masking, Google sends a request for domain1.com and the server responds with the content from domain2.com, without telling Google the content has moved. Then, sometime down the line, Google might send a request for domain2.com and the server responds with the same content. The result is the exact same content is served from two completely separate URLs…in other words it's a major duplicate content problem.

Now, even though there's no such thing as a duplicate content penalty per se, there's the potential there for the search engines to get confused about which domain is the primary, and you could end up with all kinds of issues down the line.

So, avoid domain masking and instead, opt for a 301 redirect.
