    3. It is a server-side scripting environment that is developed and released by Microsoft.
    4. It also allows one to combine HTML pages, script commands, and COM components to create interactive Web pages and powerful Web-based applications.
    5. It also makes it easier to develop and modify the said Web applications.

    I think the biggest difference is the size of the company you are likely to work for.

    .NET is mainly used by the bigger companies, Java (more specifically JSP) is used by medium sized companies, and PHP is used by smaller companies. There are exceptions but that is generally the choice that they make.
